High‑voltage DC relays are essential components in fields such as new‑energy vehicles, charging stations, and energy‑storage systems. In DC circuits, they are used to control high voltages and large currents. Also known as high‑voltage DC contactors, they feature fast actuation, compact size, high‑voltage and load‑handling capabilities, excellent shock resistance, strong arc‑extinguishing performance, and superior isolation. Serving as circuit switches with protective functions, they are typically employed in automated control circuits—essentially acting as “automatic switches” that use small currents to manage the operation of much larger currents. In electrical circuits, they perform functions such as automatic regulation, safety protection, and circuit switching.
High‑voltage DC relays primarily consist of an electromagnetic unit, a contact unit, and an arc‑quenching unit. The contact assembly is either fully or partially encapsulated within a sealed housing, which is filled with an inert gas or a mixed gas at a specified pressure. When the electromagnetic unit is energized, it generates a magnetic field that drives the moving armature, causing the movable contact to close against the stationary contact. Upon de‑energization of the electromagnetic unit, the movable contact returns to its original position under spring force, separating from the stationary contact. Meanwhile, the arc‑quenching unit rapidly stretches and extinguishes the resulting arc, ensuring reliable interruption of the circuit.
